Congratulations are in order for Christopher Reed, who secured the GOP Senate nomination, pending a possible recount at the request of George Eichhorn. Many are complaining about this, but it is certainly within Mr. Eichhorn's rights to do so according to Iowa election law should he choose, due to the closeness of the race.
Where do we go from here? No matter what happens in regards to a recount, Reed needs to look straight ahead and not give it a whole lot of thought. The guy has some serious catch-up to do. Now between you and me and the wall, I think we all know that Reed will never catch up to the dollar amount in Harkin's war chest. That doesn't mean though that he shouldn't go out there and at least act like he can. It will be interesting to see if the party establishment will open up their wallets and help a brother out. My initial thought is that will be a tough sell, but time will tell.
Reed badly needs to start increasing his exposure across the state immediately. That doesn't just mean just attending Republican events either. He needs to go into the lion's den and talk to groups that may not be quite as receptive to him as a room full of party faithfuls. The guy definitely needs some polishing as a speaker, part of the reason I ultimately ended up voting for Eichhorn. The message is there, now he needs to perfect the delivery.

I hope that Harkin discounts Chistopher Reed. Iowa has already shown this year that money does not matter when it comes to an election. Look at the caucus, little known and underfunded Mike Huckabee was out spent by Mitt Romney and yet he still won the caucus convincingly. This shows that Iowa can do what is thought to be impossible.
