Over the past six years, I’ve done thousands of radio and TV shows, where I spoke directly to the public, without a media filter “interpreting” what I said. And most people seemed to agree, I appear to be a pretty reasonable fellow. I’ve talked with many people who hold very different opinions, from Richard Dreyfuss and Rob Reiner to Melissa Etheridge and Al Sharpton. We didn’t always agree, but at least we had intelligent, respectfulconversations. Heck, even Bill Maher called me a “very nice man.” But it’s funny: once it began even to be rumored that I might move back toward politics, the long knives came out. Suddenly, I’m seeing articles that take my comments wildly out of context, twist my words, or just make up quotes out of thin air, all to paint me as some kind of wild-eyed, hate-filled liar or crazy person. If I only knew me through what those writers say I said, I wouldn’t like me, either!

The most recent example: I was slammed as a liar for predicting that if the Supreme Court rules same-sex marriage to be a Constitutional right, then churches might be forced by law to conduct same-sex wedding ceremonies. Well, first of all, grammar check: I don’t think it’s possible for a prediction to be a “lie.” If a prediction doesn’t come true, then the worst you can say is that it turned out to be incorrect. But is that prediction really so far-fetched? Note that I didn’t say the government will send in storm troopers to force pastors to perform same-sex ceremonies at gunpoint. No, the left works to erode religious freedom and traditional values much more subtly and incrementally than that. First, they’ll craft an argument that’s designed to sound perfectly reasonable, and spread it far and wide through friendly media. Hey, it’s a Constitutional right! The Court said so! And if anyone – even churches – refuses to recognize a human right, isn’t it reasonable for the state to make them comply? Perhaps by threatening to take away their tax-exempt charitable status? Of course, the left would never use the tax code to try to coerce people into behaving the way they want them to, right?

Some of the very same pundits who slam me for suggesting that the left is using the power of government to erode religious freedom are as excited as Chihuahuas on Red Bull over the idea of Hillary Clinton being President. Well, here’s what she said just last week, about women’s “reproductive health care,” and I quote: “Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will. And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed.”

Wow. So people’s religious beliefs have to be changed by the government? I’m pretty well-versed in the Bible, and I don’t remember seeing a Book of Hillary in there anywhere.

If you still think I’m being alarmist, let’s play a game of “What if?” When I first ran for President back in 2008, what if I had said that if the voters give both Congress and the White House to the Democrats, the first thing they will do is force through government health care on a party line vote, against the will of the majority of Americans? That this law would take away your doctor and your current insurance plan? And it would force every American, under penalty of law and IRS enforcement, to buy a government-approved policy for which Washington, not the customer, would dictate one-size-fits-all benefits? Okay, if I had predicted all that, what would I have been called? Crazy? Paranoid? A partisan propagandist?

Then, what if I had predicted that the government would use that very same law to force religious business owners to pay for contraceptive drugs in violation of their sacred religious beliefs? And that they’d be so radical in enforcing it that they would drag a charitable order of Catholic nuns called the Little Sisters of the Poor into federal court to force them to pay for contraceptives? Wow, what a lying loon that Huckabee must be to dream up an over-the-top scenario like that!

And what if I’d predicted that same-sex marriage activists wouldn’t be satisfied just with redefining traditional marriage, they would also demand that service people work at same-sex weddings, even if it violated their religious beliefs? And that if they simply turned down ajob, knowing countless other businesses would gladly take it, that they would be publicly slandered as haters and bigots, forced out of business, targeted with threats of murder and arson, and fined $135,000 for declining to bake a lesbian wedding cake? They’d probably say that my imagination was really running away with me now, and I should sit down in the shade for a while.

Americans who hold traditional values and religious beliefs can’t afford to put on blinders and pretend they’re not under assault. Today’s Progressives claim they stand for tolerance and diversity. But it’s patently obvious they have zero tolerance for anyone who doesn’t think exactly the same way they do. They even turned on Bruce Jenner after he admitted he was a churchgoing Republican. A true multi-cultural society cannot exist if the different cultures refuse to respect others’ beliefs, within reasonable limits. To quote Jesus, if that’s still allowed now that the Internet is a public utility: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation.”

You ask why I predict that Progressives won’t stop until they criminalize religious belief? Because I listen to what they say, and I watch what they actually do. If you’d liketo try your hand at predicting what they’ll do next, here’s a tip: Never underestimate the left’s willingness to abuse government power to force their beliefs onto others.

At the White House Correspondents' Dinner, President Obama used the Ayatollahs of Iran to make a joke at my expense. Fair enough—the President is actually better at comedy than leading the nation. Meanwhile, at the nuclear negotiating table, the Ayatollahs are making a joke of President Obama and Secretary Kerry and endangering Israel and our national security. We need a President who will lead with moral clarity and not capitulate to our enemies.

As you probably know, I concluded my Fox show earlier this year in order to contemplate whether I should run for President. The timetable for me has always been to decide sometime this Spring. Everywhere I go, people tell me they hope I run, but they miss the television show and would miss my being on radio if my candidacy caused it to cease as well.

That’s why I have launched the Huckabee Exclusive—a members only service that gives you a seat at the table with unique commentary, daily podcasts, weekly videos, and a news summary of the big stories of the week with my thoughts on those stories. I’ll share more candidly than broadcast radio or TV allows, and there will be bonus features for the subscribers as well.

Governor Huckabee has issued the following statement in response to news that American Warren Weinstein and Italian national Giovanni Lo Porto, held hostage by Al Qaeda, were accidentally killed in a U.S. counterterrorism operation in January:

"Janet and I are praying for the Weinstein and Lo Porto families. Today’s tragic news is yet another reminder we are in the midst of a battle with an evil enemy. They will stop at nothing in their fight to destroy America and the values we stand for; we must confront and defeat them.”

A pro-Common Core group is using my name without permission and attributing ideas to me that are wholly untrue. I have stated many times over that I oppose Common Core and anyone who says otherwise is either misinformed or not telling the truth. I believe education is a family function, not a federal function - period.

Nothing is more emblematic of Washington arrogance and reckless central planning than Common Core. The federal government has stuck its obtrusive nose into local education and hijacked the system. We must kill Common Core and restore common sense.

Yesterday was Holocaust Memorial Day in Israel. There were documentaries about it on television, and many public ceremonies. But perhaps the most remarkable event of all was that at a certain time, sirens sounded everywhere. And the entire nation of Israel came to a standstill. Workers stopped working. Pedestrians stopped in their tracks. Cars and buses pulled over, and their drivers and passengers got out. And as one, they all bowed their heads for two minutes in remembrance of the six million Jews killed by the Nazis in World War II. That’s why, in Israel, the phrase “Never again” isn’t just a political slogan. It’s a personal pledge, both to their ancestors and their children and grandchildren. It’s why Israel will stand alone if need be to stop Iran from building nuclear weapons, in the face of the world’s condemnation. They say “Never again” because they’ve lived through this before. Only six million of their ancestors didn’t.
